Overview
St. Thomas is the most developed of the U.S. Virgin Islands and one of the most popular cruise destinations in the Caribbean. Charlotte Amalie is a beautiful hillside harbour town packed with duty-free shops, colourful colonial buildings, and excellent dining. The island is surrounded by coral reefs and neighbouring St. John offers pristine national park beaches reachable by ferry.

Top Beaches
Magens Bay
Consistently rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Heart-shaped bay, calm turquoise water, $5 entry.
Cinnamon Bay (St. John)
Ferry to St. John ($14 return), then a short drive. National Park beach — stunning and uncrowded.
Sapphire Beach
Excellent snorkelling off the eastern tip of the island. Beach bar, sun lounger rentals.

Conch Fritters
A Caribbean staple — crispy, chewy, and best with a cold Carib beer at a harbour-side shack.
Roti
West Indian flatbread wrap stuffed with curried chicken or conch. Head to Cuzzin's Caribbean Restaurant.
Pates (Pashtelles)
Deep-fried local pastry stuffed with seasoned beef or saltfish — sold at street stalls all day.
💡 DIY Tip
Take the open-air safari taxi ($10–15) up to Magens Bay for the morning, then ferry over to St. John ($14 return from Red Hook) for the afternoon. You'll see two islands in one port day without paying ship prices.
