Montego Bay
Jamaica's tourist capital — Doctor's Cave Beach, world-class jerk, and the Hip Strip all steps from the pier.
Overview
Montego Bay is Jamaica's second-largest city and its most tourism-focused destination, with an airport, resort strip, and cruise terminal all concentrated in one area. The famous Hip Strip (Gloucester Avenue) runs along the waterfront with duty-free shopping, beach clubs, bars, and restaurants. Doctor's Cave Beach — the beach that put MoBay on the map in the 1920s when its waters were believed to have healing properties — remains one of the Caribbean's most popular white-sand beaches. Montego Bay has a reputation for being busy and commercialised, but venture beyond the tourist zone and you find genuine Jamaican markets, roadside jerk stands, and local life.

Red Stripe & Beef Patty
A Jamaican beef patty (flaky pastry with spiced beef filling) and an ice-cold Red Stripe lager — the perfect Jamaican street food combination for under $5.
💡 DIY Tip
Walk from the cruise terminal along the Hip Strip to Doctor's Cave Beach — it's a 20-min walk and a straight shot along the waterfront. Entry to Doctor's Cave is $6 USD; snorkel gear rental is available at the beach. Stop at the jerk centre on your way back. You can cover Montego Bay's highlights without booking anything in advance.
🚢 Ship Excursion Verdict
The area around the pier is very walkable. Book a ship excursion for Dunn's River Falls or Bob Marley's Nine Mile (both require an hour+ of transport from MoBay) or for adventure tours. Skip ship excursions for the beach — you can walk to Doctor's Cave on your own.
