Cozumel
World-class reefs, turquoise water, and the best tacos al pastor in the Caribbean.
Overview
Cozumel is a coral island off the Yucatán Peninsula and one of the most-visited cruise ports in the world — for good reason. The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef (the world's second-largest) sits right offshore, making it a snorkelling and diving paradise. The main town, San Miguel, is walkable from the pier and packed with food, shops, and local bars.

Top Beaches
Playa Palancar
Calm, clear water with a reef just offshore. Great for snorkelling without a tour.
Mr Sanchos Beach Club
All-inclusive day pass available. Great facilities, water sports, beachside food.
Playa Mia Grand Beach Park
Family-friendly with waterslides, kayaks, and snorkel gear rental.
Must Eat
Tacos al Pastor
Hit the street stalls near the town square — $1–2 a taco, impossibly good.
Cochinita Pibil
Slow-roasted pork, a Yucatán staple. Try La Candela or any local market.
Fresh Ceviche
Get it right off the pier at local fish shacks — lime-cured fish with avocado.
💡 DIY Tip
Rent a moped or car ($30–60/day) and circle the island yourself. The east coast is wild and wave-battered; Punta Sur eco-park is worth the entry fee. You can reach great snorkel spots without a guide.
🚢 Ship Excursion Verdict
Skip the ship excursion for beaches and snorkelling — you can do better independently for less. Book a ship excursion only for certified diving trips or if you want full logistics handled.
